Options for Console Universal NAOMI

Post by OldFoo »

Looking to get a console tpye NAOMI system for hooking up in the living room to projector and stereo.

I've seen the Pro arcade system Blast city

Very nice but for $900 USD I can probably come close to getting a full NAOMI universal cabinet.

What I like

1) Able to swap control panels

2) Standard NAOMI universal configuration

What I do not like

1) $900 USD

2) Does not house acutal NAOMI unit.

NE1 aware of anything 'off the shelf' that will

1) house a NAOMI MB and GD-ROM

2) Have standard configuration for swapping control panels

3) be completely enclosed

4) Have non-amplified output to go into stereo

5) Have VGA output for projector

Thanks and Regards

One word, you'll have to make one.

The VGA and RCA jacks can go directly to your projector and stereo.

You can use the Jamma I/O board and use a Supergun.

Boardmasters are cool, I've had 2 Blast City BM's and now an Astro BM which is now being modded for component output :)

Gotta love it. :smt007 NAOMI in the kitchen.

Now we're cookin with gas. :smt073

I do like the board master. :)

What is simplest connection between board master and NAOMI? :smt017

I guess the JAMMA converter is absolutly required? :smt011

For the rest of it I would guess you simply take VGA out on NAOMI to Display Device and Non Amplified out puts on NAOMI to stereo?

How much do one of those boardmasters cost? :smt017

Thanks

hi Bob,

yea its JAMMA, but yes you can take VGA and audio direct from the mobo and use the BM purely as a set of joysticks for controls etc

costs are approx $500 USD + shipping. unfortunately Mak Japan don't sell outside of Japan, so you'd need to use an agent of some sort

in all honesty, the BM's are sexXxay as fuck, but the video encoder board used could be better as it has no RGB controls, unlike Sigma and Pana Superguns.

heres a picture of a Pana - smaller than a BM for sure !

I'm leaning towards the board master so that I can swap out all of the unique control panels

Virtua Golf

Virtual Baseball

Out Trigger

Virtua On.

Zombie Revenge.

Can the boardmater Handle all of the CP's?

USB for VG

Analog for Virtua Baseball, Zombie Revenge, and Monkey Ball

??? for Out Trigger and Virtua On

I would say NO - the BM can't swap CP's, simply because the CP's are designed to be used with Sega amp connectors/pinout and Sega I/O boards, the CP on the BM is hardwired and isn't hot swappable or disconnectable like a normal Sega CP

although with a bit of custom work and headscratching it could be do-able - you should send a PM to NGT, he was working on a similar project.

Thanks for the prictures Megalo. :smt023

Actually, from the looks of it,

If I could just get the shell I could take the standard NAOMI JVS I/O board (which I have)

and some wiring looms with the TYCO connectors (which I also Have)

and make one. :smt115

Also this way would just need USB cable from NAOMI to Boardmaster. :D

Looks like Power supply is already there to power NAOMI JVS I/O Board. :)

Lot's of buttons on the top for Service, Test, etc.

HMMMMM. Wonder where I can get just a shell?

Probably no where. :smt010

If NE1 has a derilect shell LMK.

But as Geezer wrote...

My only problem there is it would be laminated pressboard and would not likely look as 'sexy'.

Although, If I go this route and could make it a little bigger I could house entire naomi MB inside.
