New Naomi owner, lots of questions.

Post by OldFoo »

Hello everyone, first post here :smt006

I'm a new owner of a Naomi cab :smt007, after spending a lot of time cleaning the cabinet I've finally reassembled everything, but I'm left with a few things that I need to know, hope someone can help me...

1) After reassembly I'm left with 2 cables from the JVS sub-board that are unconnected: a 2x1 with yellow wires and a 2x2 with 2 red wires.

Where should those connectors go? :smt100

2) At power up the speakers give a really nasty bump, I fear for the life of the speakers and I hate the noise :smt013 , so I was wondering if there's a solution to remove the problem.

3) What is the 3rd RCA connector in the sound board for? (it's black and marked J3 on my board) :smt017

4) Are there docs for all the various jumpers inside the Naomi mother-board and the unpopulated connectors on the filter board and JVS sub-board?

Thanks :)

Some answers to your questions:

1)Concerning the cables, a picture would be needed to identify them.

2)About the audio, make sure that the volume control is connected to the audio amp. If it is not, it will be at full volume, which might be the cause of the 'thump' you hear on power up.

3)The third RCA you see is an un-amplified, mono audio out for a sub-woofer setup.

4)There are diagrams and documents concerning pin-outs of various boards. First take a look here to find the usual common documents --->Naomi Resources<---. The way the Naomi is setup, if the connector doesn't fit, it belongs somewhere else. If you need something more specific, post it on this forum. ;)

Here is a close-up photo of both connectors:

Volume control is working but I still get the bump even if I turn the volume all the way down, I think the only solution is to add a simple anti-bump circuit.

I'm surprised that nobody else is affected by the same problem :smt017

Ok, thanks :smt023

I would like to know about these connectors on the filterboard (midi,rs422,maple):

and these blue jumpers on the motherboard:

But the manuals don't mention those :smt012

Maybe I found what are those 2 connectors, in the schematics these two are marked as "NOT IN USE":

The first one seems to be it, since the color code for the wires matches (30=yellow).

I'm not really sure about the 2nd one since I can't read the first number and the 2nd is reversed (51= white wire with red stripes while I have a red wire with white stripes).

Anyway, if some Naomi owner can confirm that his machine has the same unused connectors I would be satisfied. :smt023
