Guilty Gear X working with Capcom I/O ?

Post by OldFoo »

Is there any way to tell if a Guilty Gear X cart is American or Japanese?

I have a Guilty Gear X cart which I assume is Japanese and it would not work with my setup (Capcom I/O). I get an error which says something about a wrong version.

I had a nosey about on here and found out that, it just so happens, a couple of Japanese games don't work with the Capcom I/O - Guilty Gear X and Project Justice.

Anyway, I guess the short version of my post would be - how can you tell what region a Guilty Gear X cart is from?

Or even, is there any way round the compatibilty problem with the Capcom I/O?

Anyone else had this problem?

GGX can be run in US and JPN bios (not sure about Export). Most games are made to run in either region with the exception of JPN only games, which usually have the game title in Japanese writing on the carts. If you want to see a compatibility list, see here--->Bios Compatibility List<--- on the Sega-Naomi main website.

Cheers for the quick reply!

The problem I'm having isn't with the bios as far as I can tell - I'm going by this post I came across by Mr-Megalo -------

"......compatibilty, yes, US Capcom I/O doesn't like Japanese Guilty Gear X or Moero Justice Gakuen and can be problematic"

When I run my Japanese Guilty Gear X through a US Capcom I/O i see this message --------

EEPROM ID or version Err

EEPROM/MASKROM

ID: 0/0504

VER: 0/160

Aside from buying a new I/O (which I'm not keen on because they are a bit pricey, I'd probably have to power it and a bunch of other hassles) my only alternative seems to be to get a USA Guilty Gear cart.

And here-in lies my problem - I have no idea how to tell the difference between versions.

Was there even a USA version of the cart or was it generic?

The rest of the Mr-Megalo quote above stated that there is at least 2 versions of the Capcom I/O: US and JAP versions. He stated that you needed the JAP version to use on GGX. I remember because I was surprised that there was 2 different versions. There is no separate Jap/US versions GGX.

Cheers for clearing that up - I was on the verge of taking my chances with another cart.

I guess if I get myself a Jap Capcom I/O i'll have nothing to worry about :/.

What a strange incompatibilty issue...

Thanks again, sir :)
