@Andy

Do you know the region codes? That would make life a little easier.

Too Bad there is no super secret region code. FF=Universal :D

The code slingers must need something like this during development. :smt017

Just wishful thinking. Only 250 combinations remaining to try :smt115

Funny you should mention all FF's because that indeed does region free a game but only if you modify the games region byte.

What i mean by this is that if you set the region byte (offset 0x428 AFAIK) in a decrypted GDROM image to 0xFF it will run on any bios regardless.

Im sure you could do this to a cart too in a very crude way by reflashing the socketed EPROM (IC22) with the same byte set, thus making a region free cart.

Im leaning towards a look at dissasembling the bios and see if we can't add a "Set Region" setting to the testmenu.

I Like this.

While NAOMI 1 MB's are cheap, and I have 3 seperate MB's for each region changing the MB's out of the cabinet takes some time.

A menu selection to "set region" would be AWESOME :D

If you have success with NAOMI1 can you also look into NAOMI2 as I have NAOMI2's running in both of my cabinets?

Thanks

MrS
That's an interesting approach, but I'm looking to do something more simple, different. My idea comes from the DVD style of region coding. What I hope to accomplish is to set the Naomi to basically say 'yes' to any region software that presents itself. In DVD's, if the region is set to '1' and the player is set to 'all, then the player will continue to play the contents regardless of the set region. That way, any 'coded' region from Europe, Asia, etc will play unhindered.

While your approach is sound, you are saying 'change the software on the DVD' which would take alot more work and would require changing the medium itself.

I'll be greatful for whatever you guys come up with. :smt023

A region free NAOMI1 and NAOMI2 sound like DA BOMB to me. :D

What a pain in the arse it is switching MoBo's or BIOS's. :smt013

I just want to put a darn cart in and play. :smt015

The GD-ROM's are even more of a pain in the arse having to switch both the security IC and the MOBO/BIOS. :smt013
