Naomi sound problems...

Hey, I posted this on a couple of forums, but am getting responses like "wire colors don't matter" and "build your own amp" (but no links or instructions etc) and I am not really getting any help.

Here's where I am...I am trying to get stereo sound off of my naomi into my astro city cabinet. I wired it up like I thought it was supposed to be wired up, and I get a horrible buzzing noise from the speakers as I raise the volume.

I'm using the setup in the picture:

I have the 4 wires that come off of the stereo out from the naomi amp going into the plug from the speakers that would normally plug into the 4 pin socket inside the CP.

What am I doing wrong? Why the buzz? Should I drop the sega i/o, amp, and stuff and grab a capcom i/o? Would that solve the noise problem?

Can anyone lead me in the right direction to trouble shoot this issue?

I am no expert on this and please excuse this post as it is not a solution, but I worked with audio equipment in a professional capacity for many years, plus I have recently wired up a Universal cabinet.

I'm looking at the image and 2 things immediately struck me. Firstly, have you used this set up successfully outside the Astro cabinet and the buzzing noise is something new and related to the cab only?

Secondly, I personally wouldn't trail audio cables near power supplies as that's really when you tend to pick up additional noise.

Well, it looks like you have the naomi side of things pretty much right...so that leaves the jamma harness and whatever is inside the cab...if you could post pics of those it would be helpful(i'm apparently the only person in the world who has never actually seen one of those astro city cabs in person)....but generally speaking, when I've heard that buzz on a known working setup, it's because the sound isn't wired properly for the new setup at the harness....FYI I have plugs on mine so they can be mixed around, unplugged, etc as neccessary...anyways, I would check that first, then the plug(?) in the cab...those would be good first steps I think, but take it with a grain of salt as I'm not an expert and tend to do weird things with my harnesses and cabs. ;)

Well this is an alternative solution. I use Creative PC speakers and hack the speaker wires to go to whatever speakers are in the cab. I usually use 6in car speakers. the advantage to this is a) you don't have to hassle with a sound amp & wiring (by the way I have 2 of these so if someone needs feel free to ask) b) eliminates the dependency on a Capcom I/O. To me prices on these are ridiculous. c) you also get a sub so your sounds are nice and clean :smt020
