I acquired a broken gdrom and I popped it open to find that the ribbon cable was torn and shorting with the metal shielding. Does anyone know where I can get the cable from? I am sure the drive would work if the cable was replaced. Also, the fan needs to be swapped. Where could I get one of those as well?

Cannot help you with the cable, but for the fan: I use a PAPST 612FL, which is very quiet, and fits without any hassle.

Well I have all the parts other then the ribbon cable. I don't really need another drive since this one is just an extra one I was going to sell anyway.
