I've read through the starter faq and some other posts and I am still confused by exactly what to power. I have a supergun which has its own power supply connected to it. In these two scenarios what else do I have to power?



1. Supergun connected to Capcom I/O connected to Naomi 2 Motherboard

Does the Supergun power supply power everything through the jamma connector?



2. Supergun connected to Capcom I/O connected to Naomi 2 Motherboard connected to GD-ROM drive.

Do I need an additional power supply in this case? If so where does it plug in? (motherboard, GD-ROM, Capcom I/O, etc)

Best option (in both cases) when using a supergun is to let the supergun power the Capcom I/O through the JAMMA harness, and using an external (NAOMI) powersupply to power both the Naomi motherboard and the GD-Rom drive (if present). The GD-Rom drive is connected by using a power splitter that 'taps' the power off the power connector connected to the Naomi motherboard, as shown in the starter FAQ.

So there is no way that the psu I have connected to the supergun will have enough juice to power both the capcom i/o and the motherboard? I must have a separate psu even if I don't have a GD-ROM connected. Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. Superguns were made to power jamma pcb's. The Naomi system with GD-Rom system uses more power than the standard JAMMA supports.



Average max power:

JAMMA= 110 watts



Naomi= 180 watts (fully loaded)

I've got a similar question about using my supergun with a Naomi 1, Sega Rev.A I/O, and audio amp. Old school. No GD-ROM.



I don't have a Sega power supply, and might build an ATX power harness. Do I still need to power the JAMMA connector pins with my supergun? I've got a Vogatek supergun using an ATX power supply so ideally I'd like to disconnect power from the Vogatek and connect the ATX Naomi harness so I only need 1 PSU.



Also, does anyone build/sell a cheap ATX->Naomi power harness or is there any recommended source for connectors?

The I/O needs power as well, which it normally gets through the JAMMA harness. If the JAMMA harness does not provide power (ie. you remove the ATX power supply from the supergun), you will need to power the I/O directly from the ATX PSU.



The starter FAQ explains the pins that can be used to power the I/O directly.

You can also power it from CN12 of the mobo.
