Computer INSTEAD of NAOMI 2

Post by OldFoo »

Ok, this may be stupid, but I bought a Wild Riders cabinet WITHOUT the Naomi 2 in it at an auction. Don't know if it got stolen or what, but I've got it here anyway. I plugged an older computer up and the SVGA monitor works fine but the USB comes back with Unknown USB Device. Is there a USB Driver that will work with the Sega control/USB Board?

Or is there another solution to the issue? I think the cabinet is great, the monitor is super clear, and I've got plenty of computers laying around to install windows on and use as a gaming system and it would be great to play all those computer motorcycle games on a REAL motorcycle feel, BUT no drivers. If anyone knows how to write a driver for this OR knows of one available I would be most appreciative of them and love them forever, or at least 5 minutes.

Currently, there is no known windows driver for the Naomi I/O. It's an interesting idea, but hooking the I/O to a computer has been done before with the same result. Also, I'm fairly certain that internal knowledge of the hardware is necessary to make a driver as specific information is needed. It's unfortunate, but a fact of life. :smt009

However, if there is someone knowledgeable in making drivers, and knows differently, then by all means give it a try. Who knows what might happen? :D

Lindbergh is PC based, and yep uses the trust Naomi I/O board still.

So Sega obviously have a DX driver (I assume the Lindbergh is built on top of a Windows OS, and not Linux)

I always thought Sega used Unix?

Sega used bespoke OS, but Dreamcast was badged as a Windows CE compliant box and Sega had built up a good relationship with M$ and where granted special access rights to use an ehanced XBOX for the Chihiro system (although the only real difference was the 512MB compared to 64MB memory).

Maybe thats why the former head of SEGA of America is now the head of M$ gaming, UK born, Peter Moore.

Also that is why a few games at the time where XBOX exclusives.
