Since cabs seem easier to find in Europe, is this possible?

Post by OldFoo »

Is the only difference between a Japanese Net City cabinet and a European Net City cabinet the power?

(I don't think I'm saying this correctly, but) The power cord is the same (or the voltage is the same) on Japanese cabinets and US cabinets, as I understand it.

So, I was thinking of ordering a cabinet from Japan.

However, it dawned on me that it might be cheaper to have one shipped from Europe instead.

Problem is, the voltage (the power cord) on European cabs won't work with US electrical outlets.

SO, I was wondering if the only difference between the cabs is the power cord. If so, would it be possible to remove that on a European cabinet, and replace it with a US cord/power supply (or whatever.)

Just trying to figure out how to get a Net City cab, and the idea struck me.

Thanks,

Steve

Europe is 220V, Japan is 110 v. You can easily swap power cords to the desired one and use a power converter if voltage doesnt match. No big deal.

So nothing else in the cabinet would be affected, correct?

Thanks for your reply!

All you need is a step convertor - job done! Nothing else would be effected. The other solution is to swap out the power block and PSU found in the cabinet for a US set.

Sweetness.

That way, if I can't locate something here, Europe may be cheaper to have a cab shipped from then Japan.

Thanks guys!

Hey! I like mine :smt020 matter of fact I will be heading back down to Florida to pick up another from the good ol' Englishman In Plant City. They are really easy to wire up and they aren't really that bad on the eyes especially if you have a working marquee :smt020

the molex connectors are an easy fix..new harnesses from the Geez...fugly only if you mean because there upright but so are UK Naomi's, and Jap Net City's (Ive chopped a Jap btw) So minimal effort and cost to make a USA Uni look Net Cityish....

IMO, they are ugly because of that box for a cp....other than that, not too bad. I don't like the blue too much either. Don't get me wrong, I'd take one, lol....but would rather get a euro/jpn universal if I had a choice.
