NAMCO JAMMA -> JVS converter Instruction Manual

Post by OldFoo »

I recently purchased a NAMCO JAMMA->JVS Converter

It did not come with any instructions.

Most of the stuff is pretty straight forward (JAMMA, Power, USB, Audio, Video)

I have it up and running but I am waiting for a CGA to VGA converter to set it run properly. (I've tried one so far but I had to send it back becuase it did not work)

I did have a couple of questions and would like the manual if anyone has a soft copy (I Googled but could not find one)

1) What does the MN/ST jumper do? Mono/Stereo

2) Why are there two 15 pin video outputs? for vs play

3) Is there any difference between the two video outputs? no

4) Are both video outputs standard CGA? TBD

5) Looks like there is either an S-Video or QWERTY keyboard connector, what is this for? S-Video Out

6) What is the extra 10 pin connector beside the JAMMA connector for (kick harness maybe)? TBD

7) What does the reset button do? TBD

8) What does the four position dip switch do? TBD

One a side not what is the best CGA->VGA converter with a 15pin input and 15 pin output?

(I tried the one on ebay from Amery but it did not work properly, it just doubled the H-Sync and it was not close enough to the 31Khz to work, no adjustment, so I just got a bunch of pixels)

What I want

NAMCO JVS 15pin -> Converter 15pin in -> Converter 15 pin out -> VGA monitor

I've seen a couple of cheap cga -> vga converters but the wiring looked like it would be a mess (no 15 pin connectors - just headers). Trying to keep this setup clean.

I have a DVDO IScan Pro Upscaler I got on the cheap to try next. I need a RGB to 15 pin cable for this.

Any help greatly appreciated

(especially a soft copy of the manual, this would probably answer most of my questions)

Thanks

Bob Presutti

1 question down, seven to go.

I really wish I had a soft copy of the manual.

I've only seen the manual (2 pages) in Japanese not in English. It's part of the Cyberlead manual.

if its part of the cyberlead, isn't the cyberlead a standard res machine anyways?

which would make sense, as the cyberlead has a built in i/o and it would be hard to put a jamma harness in it?

i know englishman owns a cyberlead, but i don't think he has that board in it.

yes the cyberlead is JVS only unless you hook up this board to allow JAMMA boards to be played in the cab, as it uses the same hook ups as a Naomi, I only use Mr Driller (JVS) or Naomi setup in my cyberlead as I do NOT have this board, yes you are correct the cyberlead is only Dual Res not VGA, but I would guess you could use this in a UNI? but would need to down convert the video to STD unless you have a D9200 tri res in the uni

From AO...

It is an S-Video Output

There are 2 VGA headers on the jvs>jamma for vs play.

These are from cyberleads which have vs hardware at the rear of the cab. The 2nd VGA gets hooked up to a port at the rear of a cyberlead to be linked with another cab.

Both output the same VGA signal.

They are not VGA but seem to be the same output whatever it might be CGA/RGBHV/Other. All I know is they are NOT standard VGA. Not sure exactly what they are yet

Hi Mick, THanks!

To get JAMMA to run in my NAOMI cab I think I need to upconvert the signal frm whatever comes out of the NAMCO converter to standard VGA (640x480 @ 60Hz). Just not sure what the heck is coming out of the 15 pin NAMCO connector. It might be CGA but the CGA-> VGA converter I tried from Amery did not work. I spoke with Amery and they said their converter simply doubled the H-Sync frequency and there was no tolerence on the input so that solution was a bust.

maybe have to take the video direct off the JAMMA harness itself and bypass the JAMMA > JVS adaptor and put the signal thru a convertor not pretty but should work I think
