2 Systems in 1 Cabinet with a KVM?
2 Systems in 1 Cabinet with a KVM?
Okay question, if you have 2 systems (say triforce and naomi) in 1 cabinet could you use a KVM switch to swap from one USB/VIDEO to the other and leave both plugged in, if you doubled up on the power?
If you have two power supplies or a big one, Yes but not Hot Plug and Play.
Because if you switch the JVS connector from one motherboard to the other, the motherboards without I/O, will give you and I/O comms error.
The JVS, I/O pcb, must to be present at power up, and if you disconnect it, you can not recover from this situation, only rebooting or entering to the system menu and exiting from it, for force an I/O initialization and reenumeration.

If you swith with all connected, in hot, it will produce errors when switching, and sometimes you will loose comunications.
Maybe if you swicth very fast...
The unique way to do this correctly, is to have two JVS I/O boards, and swiitch the outputs of the I/O boards, with an old DB25 printer Switch, for example.
If you turn off, befor switch then ther not will be any problem.

The KVM switches I've tried for my desktop/laptop appears as a standard keyboard to the computer. Because of this, even the extra multimedia buttons on a keyboard don't work on a KVM. JVS-IO isn't even recognized by a computer, so I doubt it'd ever work.
Two options are
1.) Have some way to change inputs between the controls and the I/O.
2.) Manually change the USB cable over between systems to a single I/O.
I use the first option in my cab. Each player control set has a 15-pin plug that connects to either the Naomi, MAME PC, or regular Jamma interface. A cheap VGA switch from eBay controls video, and a leftover pushbutton RCA selector selects the audio source. I run one system at a time.
I might have to make some sort of change if I get another JVS system, like a RingEdge. Perhaps make my own USB switcher (it's 4 wires in the cable, IIRC). But I would like a single switch for USB, audio, and video, which I suspect you also seek.
