HOTD2 sensors. How perfectly aligned must they be?
HOTD2 sensors. How perfectly aligned must they be?
So, I bought a kit with all the HOTD2 parts to it. However, I'm having an issue putting it into my smaller cab. The game was packed with the sensors still in the original metal bezel (four parts).... so, it's nice to see how they go in, but do they have to be the exact same spacing? I can't fit the larger bezel in this machine.... and while I can put the sensors themselves in the same spot (more or less), I wonder if I can just put them in a straight line, 5 on top and 5 on the bottom, and wonder if that would be good enough? Anyone know what I should do, here?
Thanks. I have a set up I bought, and only 8 of the 10 sensors work right now. I took out the two dead ones while the new ones I order arrived. You can still play it half assed, but the game gets confused on the corners.
Obviously, it plays poorly with 8, so hopefully all 10 in the proper order works perfectly. I'm assuming they have to be in the order the kit came in (start bottom right, then work counter clockwise around the screen).

Got the two new sensors in.... I'm telling you, this thing aims like shit. I've got them in the exact location the manual suggests. I've tinkered with the dip switches (i know one mirrors it, the other changes between a 10 sensor and 14 sensor game). Seems that playing around with the pots 5 and 6 helped a just a little, but still really sucks. Should I mess with the first four pots, too? Neither gun is good, and oddly, but are poor in different ways. What the hell do I do? Where to start? I'd hate to get two new super expensive guns just to find that doesn't fix it. Crap. :smt011 :smt010 :smt012 :smt017

Got that problem too. I messed around with the gun board for hours and hours. In the end I bought a new gun and suddenly it all worked fine. If the sensors in the guns are bad theres no other solution than replacing it.
Would be cool to know how to replace the sensors with junk out of a tv remote control or something. Could be some standard photo cell.
Cleaning the sensors maybe could also help, but don't use alcohol.

Second hand guns and lens = mixed results.. Also home made bezel yeild mixed results.
Check the guns lens units - if the lens are dirty/scuffed then that will affect accuracy.
Also check that all screen sensors are the same level led wise - news one s are probably brighter?
Only mess around with pot VR4 and VR5, others could permantly damage your equipment.
Technique for setting them up is to point the gun at the centre of the screen and tweak VR4 and VR5 till they are are close to 0x80 as possible for both X/Y.
So, I adjusted some more and the guns are pretty close. Perfect? No, not really. But in some spots on the screen, pretty good.
A few of the sensors are pretty dim. So, I decided to look at it with a digital camera. To my surprise, two of them didn't show up on the camera at all, and one of them flickers in and out. The other seven (including the two new ones) are VERY bright. So, I am replacing those now. After that, I'll replace the sensors in the gun, if I have to.... then go from there. But three bad sensors can't be helping matters much. :smt019
