Killer Instinct troubles...

Does anyone know what it means when the board boots, plays the usual test 'ding' in the beginning,

then only shows white on the screen and does nothing else? :smt011

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can you actually get into test mode to check the onboard tests ?

i have a couple of board sets that go to a white screen like yours, have replaced roms & H-drive to confirm that it is a board fault. thats as far as i got with mine as i have another 4 or 5 working sets as a backup.

You need to replace & test anything that can be on these boards as they are multi layer PCB's with 100% surface mount IC's so fault diag is nearly imposible as you cant check traces that are hidden inbetween pcb layers.

Try another HDD and get all the roms tested first as i think this is the easiest thing you can do first.

Give me a shout if you need any other help

I've verified that all the roms are working and have all necessary programming. I'd hate to pronounce this pcb dead, if there's anything else I should try, please let me know. :smt009 :smt089

Sorry but i have to agree, you have tested what you can, if thats all ok then you are looking at a dead board, i dont know of anyone that has repaired a dead one of these due to the shit design of the board.

Hence why these boards are getting hard to get hold of now.

Those boards deserve to die, IMO.

KI is got to be the crapest 2D fighter ev3r.

Sorry your board is dead dood, thankfully thanks to MAME we can keep the harddrives alive, pity about the actual boards.

I think you should confirm the legs of QFP chip under the heatsink are soldered firmly.

I think floating legs cause similar problem.

Lot of the old boards need SMT rework due to pin lifting, seems they where stingy with the solder.

Model 1 and 2 are really bad for pin lifting on the custom GPU.
