Using Atomiswave motherboard in a Naomi cab, how?

Post by OldFoo »

Hello, I m on the verge of finally getting a Naomi universal cab and I was wondering if it was possible to use the Atomiswave motherboard in a naomi without big trouble.

If yes how? is it just plug & play or does it require cables, psu and stuff.... Only one game at the moment I simply must have (from the ones I know about) is Hokuto no Ken.

Saw the price of it was quit expensive but but I saw a good deal on yjp where they were offering the whole kit with motherboard etc...

thanks a lot for infos!

You need a JVS2Jamma adapter.

Available here :

http://www.starcab.net/product_info.php ... cts_id=400

or here :

You can also use this, if you only plan to use an Atomiswave and not a JVS system like the Naomi :

thanks for answering, ok so if I understand right with one of those adaptor I will be able to play jamma via the naomi? I thought there was frequency problems with the screen on the naomi running at 31. :smt017

is it just to connect for exemple the Atomiswave motherboard or any other jammas via the adaptor to the naomi motherboard?

Sorry I m a bit confused...

For standard JAMMA games you will need a 15k monitor, or a tri-sync (15,25,31) monitor.

IIRC doesn't the Atomiswave have a USB-type connector for JVS? You will still need to power the system via the JAMMA edge, but it makes it a cheaper option.

Option1) Buy a JVS>JAMMA, but since you can't play JAMMA games with your current monitor without either buying an upscaler or a Tri-sync chassis (if your monitor will support one), this is a lot of expense for 1 system.

Option2) Get an Adapter made up with a JAMMA Connector on one side, and a set of JST connectors on the other to connect to the power leads on the Naomi. Should cost about a tenner.

I'd personally go for option 2. I'd offer to build you one, but don't have my kit here (unless you can wait till October). I'm sure someone on here would be able to make you one.

ajaja.. seems complicated for a newbee :) Thanks a lot for offering your help.

I wanted to use the naomi cab just for naomi games and the only other games I want to use on it are SF3 third strike which is a cps3 and Hokuto no ken atomiswave.

Maybe it would be easier to get a Blast city instead due to the tri-format screen...

My Uni has a tri-sync in it, and you can get Uni's cheapo nowadays, then get a Pentranic Quad-sync in it.

If you want SF3:TS, then you need to go the JVS>JAMMA route.

Alright! I just fond out that the naomi uni I might get got a tri-sync monitor!! I guess that just makes everything easier!!

I thought naomi cab only had 31k monitors :smt017

Well anyway with just a JVS2Jamma adaptor things should just run fine right? And then I get back to the original question how exactly do I connect the Atomiswave motherboard ?

Simple.

The Atomiswave is standard JAMMA, so get yourself a JVS>JAMMA adapter.

Plug the power cables from the cab into the 2 white connectors on the left. Plug in the VGA cable from the monitor to one of the VGA connectors, and connect up the Audio leads.

Plug the JVS USB lead into the socket on the board.

Plug the adapter into the JAMMA edge on the Atomiswave.

BINGO!

I have the RS adapter and it doesn't really work like it should, I believe it's the firmware on the atmega chip that is broken. Try holding down p1b1 and do diagonals on the joystick...

As for making a jamma harness with AMP connectors, be aware that the standard "cheap" jamma harness you get from e.g. jammaboards.com is too short for standup universal (tried it, argh..)
