Daytona 2 in a Candy cab
Daytona 2 in a Candy cab
I've got a question for some of you guys familiar with Model 3. I had to move a while back and I couldn't fit my Daytona 2 though my tiny apartment door, so I stripped everything out of it - wheel/shifter, brake/gas, soundboard, etc. Now, I've gotten the video working through a Model 3 to JAMMA convertor, but I'm not so sure about the controls. I tried simply hooking them up straight to the filter board, but no dice. Do the controls run off of the 5v or the 3.3v line? Same question with the DSB-2 soundboard. I was hoping if they required it, they would pull it from a pin on the filterboard, but its not wokring. Also, while I haven't hooked this up yet, do I really need all of those little pcb's attached to that big plank of plywood? Its the piece with the sounboard on it. I'm assuming I'll need the pcb with the eprom on it for the force-feedback, but even then I'm not sure. Sorry if this question is a little complicated, I know its a little weird, but I wanna play some Daytona!

Wow, M3 in a candy cab??? not even sure where to start.
I took my daytona cabinet apart piece by peice and took it up to my 3rd floor to reassmble. This might be the best route IMHO (if you have the space)
My Daytona Cabinet is on the 3rd floor but it really did not take more than a couple days to take it apart, refurb and put it back together.

Believe me, I tried getting that bastard in my apartment. I fit everything in there except the monitor portion. The worst part is that if I had a deluxe, it would probably fit no problem :smt009 Basically, everything except the pcb's, wheel, and pedals are going in the trash cause I have nowhere to put them.
OK, Now I understand.
If I recall I did have to take the door off of the hinges.
The plastic side bezels definitely came off the monitor portion of the cabinet.
The top that holds the marquee definitely came off.
I think I tilted the cabinet that houses the monitor it on it's side and kind of 'twisted' it into the room.
Also, after I removed the plastic bezels there were additional blocks of wood glued to the monitor cabinet (but I do not think I took these off)
What size is your doorway?
I had a standard bedroom door

I assume you mean the USA wooden job.
Sadly you guys suffered when it came to Sega, Sega USA builds are the worst.
The Export/Japan single sits will fit through a 26.5" doorway, and they have the nice U-frame monitor section.
I've moved many a single sit to new locations, upstairs and what not.
No way you can play Daytona 2 without 3 5K analogue pots, one for the wheel, 2 for the accel/brake.

The door way on this room is 30" (Acutally 29 1/4" at it widest)

Did you remove the coin box?
I can't recall exactly how I got it in there but it will go.
I did disassemble everything and give it the super clean and reassemble in the room
I did not however break any of the monitor cabinet joints to get it in.
I plan on putting another one in there in the fall (maybe sooner)
I'll try to dig up some pictures of the thing in peices this week
(I know I have them somewhere)

Thanks for the replies guys. Andy, do you have any idea if Sega made a stand-up model cab for any of the Model 3 drivers? Rally 2, SCUD, whatever, and would be fine I assume. I know I've seen Daytona 1 stand-up around here in the states. Unless I can find a Japanese style, that may be the best way to go. Again, for the time being I do have the wheel and gas/brake assmblies. I just wanted to see what I needed to do to test the whole setup and attempt to play it as a temporary setup until I get get a more reasonable sized cab.
